For Sonatype CLM, an application represents the link between what your team is actually developing and all the information that Sonatype CLM can provide. You’ll generally want this to be one-to-one. That is for every application your team is developing, you should create an application in Sonatype CLM. In Sonatype this application is merely a representation of the real thing, but it’s not less important.
At the application level in Sonatype CLM you can do nearly everything you can for an organization. This includes creating policies and all the associated details. Additionally, whenever you perform an evaluation, and a report is generated, all that information will be associated to a specific application.
Don’t get too stressed out if all of this seems like too much. In later chapters (see Policy Management and Application Composition Report), we’ll discuss this in greater detail.
